Israeli ArtillerySince the start of April, roughly 150 artillery rounds a day have been fired into Gaza by the Israeli army. This intense shelling campaign is in response to Palestinian rockets being fired into Israeli territory. The Palestinian rockets are homemade and usually miss their targets, but they have also been known to cause casualties. Though the newly elected Hamas has observed a truce with Israel for more than a year Israel holds them responsible for the attacks. With probably the most advanced military in the world Israel still continues to engage in a collective punishment against Gaza. Major-General Yoav Galant, head of Israel’s southern command, said the military is considering all options to stop the violence. “It could be anything from a partial occupation of the Gaza Strip to a full occupation”. So far neither side is backing down as both sides see their attacks as a justified response to the other. Israel just ended 38 years of military occupation in Gaza last summer.
