Thanks to Dan for bringing my attention to this one. A flash cartoon with a very funny look at the immigration debate. And who doesn’t love cartoons?

  1. Lol! That was pretty funny. The term “cracker” actually comes from the gaelic word “craic” (pronounced crack) which means to talk and boast. Apparently at some point in the past whities were known as big talkers.

  2. very interesting. i never knew where that slur came from. always thought it was much more recent, and related to corn.

  3. You’d be surprised at how old most of the white-ethnic slurs are, and how almost all of them are directed at Scots. “Redneck” refers to the Scotsmen in the 17th century who wanted a Presbyterian government in Scotland, and wore a red piece of cloth around their necks to symbolize the covenant they’d signed with their own blood. “Hillbilly” refers to Prince William of Orange, the protestant king who defeated the Catholic King James in the 17th century. The Scots who settled Ulster and later the US called themselves Billy Boys, which eventually turned into hillbillies and became a slur. I have no idea what honky means, though.
