  1. I could barely understand a thing that mumbling british guy said, but I’ll have to call bullshit anyway. Punching someone in the sternum hard will hurt because you have a lot of nerve ending there, it might even knock the wind out of them, but there’s no way you can train your fingers to be hard enough to go through someone’s ribs.

Likewise, you’d be hurting a lot more if Vitali Klitschko hit you in the stomach than if the old chinese master hit you.

  2. Isn’t it interesting that in this so-called scientific age, people can still call bullshit and disregard the possiblities of human potential. Never mind the fact that the knowledge passed down to the ancient chinese healers from the Hindus regarding the force and flow of energy, as well as the effect of manipulating anatomy and of intrinsic workings of reflex, (what we would call nowadays kinesiology, scientific anatomy, physics, and neurology, which has just as much to do with the nervous system as it does the brain,) was ancient when Rome was built.
Again, there is nothing mystical or magical about Chi. It is simply an interpretation of physics and knowledge of anatomy, as well as the ability to find mental focus and the phenomenon that relaxed circular motions actually do generate more force.
As far as training the fingers to be able to peirce into the body, while it may be true that the likelihood of shattering bone with a finger strike is low, take a moment and feel around your torso. The area protected by solid tissue is small. As for the ribs and sternum, there are plenty of places, such as between the ribs and the cartiligeous joints, that are far from solid. The fingers, though they seem weak, can in fact be trained to withstand immense pressure and feats of strength. Bruce Lee has many filmed documentation of one armed finger tip pushups, balancing and exerting his weight and strength on nothing more than his thumb and forefinger. I myself have personally seen demonstrations of finger tip strikes shattering glass beer bottles. Now you tell me, with the proper degree of training coupled with precise knowledge of where and when to hit, how is it so impossible that fingers cannot be used as weapons.
Lastly, yes, Vitali Klitschko, who if I’m not mistaken is the boxer that is renowned for KO’ing people with a body blow, would indeed hurt you alot if he were to hit you. But such broad impact, such as a punch from a padded fist, or even an unpadded one for that matter, has little chance of causing serious and possibly chronic nerve damage. As one who has personally suffered from such damage, I’d rather take the body blow. You’re right, the nerve strike doesn’t hurt too much, but paralysis is paralysis.
