Michael Berg, whose son was beheaded by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, talks about what Zarqawi’s death means for himself and Iraq. The reporter interviewing him seems to be shocked that he isn’t jumping for joy over the death of his son’s killer. Everything he says about the war and continuing cycle of violence is right on. Berg’s rationality was not exactly the hate filled cowboy attitude CNN expected from the father of a victim.

  1. Hahhahahahahhahahaahahahahaaaa! That was Freakin’ Awesome!! Although I personally am amazed at the amount of rationality and compassion this man seems to have. It’s so clear how the anchor tries numerous attempts to incite a vengeful reaction, one that would guarantee some positive feedback for the war in Iraq, and how it backfires so miserably. One of the things he is correct about is his recognition of the so-called “insurgency” as the “resistance.” While the definitions are technically the same, the implication of the former is that the rebellion is led by outside forces. That has never been the case, as far as I’m concerned. Right on!

  2. His reaction to his son’s murder seems irrational to me. First, his son, who was Jewish, tried to fit in in Islamic society and even planned to convert to Islam, yet that didn’t stop the “resistance” from beheading him simply because he was born Jewish. If his father were to step foot in Iraq, he’d be torn apart by a mob of frothing fanatics. It’s not compassion, it’s idiocy. They’re his enemy, whether he wants to believe it or not.
