Switzerland, home of the Geneva Conventions, condemned Israel�s action of “collective punishment” on Palestine after the capture of an Israeli soldier. According to the Swiss ministry, the Israeli attacks on the prime minister’s office, destruction of a power station supplying 43% of the Gaza Strip’s electricity, and arresting large numbers of democratically elected legislators is unacceptable and violates international law.

The statement urged the captors to treat the Israeli soldier properly, and for Israel to be in line with international humanitarian law in freeing the soldier. Israel had warned the Palestinian government that “the sky will fall on them” after the deadline set by the Palestinian captors for the Israeli government to comply with their negotiation had expired.
