Although an agreement was signed in May between the Sudanese government and one of the rebel groups, over 80 people have been killed in Darfur, Sudan in the last few days. 2 months after signing the agreement and the deal remains unimplemented, while security grows worse.

Darfur’s Sudan Liberation Army (SLA) has been fighting for greater power and wealth for the last 3 years. Though now the SLA has split and is fiercely fighting one another. According to survivors from northern Darfur, SLA groups led by Minni Minnawi, emptied villages around the town of Korma. Minnawi’s faction was the only group that signed the peace agreement, under pressure of the international community, while the conflict victims rejected the deal. The African Union has been informed that Minnawi is now responsible for over 50 deaths in his capture of the town of Korma. It is now becoming clear that rushing an agreement was a mistake. Peacekeepers have also been denied access to Korma. source

  1. You mean to tell me that there’s an African Union! I think Africans were better off living in small tribal bands in the bush.
