A report by The World Wildlife Fund says that tiger habitats have shrunk by 40 percent in the past decade, and worldwide tiger populations have dwindled down to around 7,500 individuals. Poaching and the trade of tiger parts in China and Southeast Asia are the leading causes of their decline. The study identified 76 areas which have the most likely chance of supporting tigers, which currently reside in only 7 percent of their historic range. The study says, “Many important areas have been overlooked for funding, largely because there has been no method to systematically identify areas of high conservation potential.” In a related story, the cd jacket of J-lo’s upcoming album will be printed entirely on albino tiger skin… maybe I shouldn’t have pre-ordered 20 copies.
