Heath Ledger has been offered the role of The Joker in the upcoming “Batman Begins” sequel.

The ‘Brokeback Mountain’ star is the latest in a long line of respected actors to be linked to the role. Robin Williams was reportedly desperate to land the part, British actor Paul Bettany was said to be in “talks” and ‘Reservoir Dogs’ star Steve Buscemi was also rumoured to be on the shortlist.

While Heath isn’t exactly the epitome of an insane badass, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. He must’ve been spectacular to beat the afore mentioned actors for the part. However, following up Jack Nicholson’s portrayal may be a death sentence. Heath’s gonna have to do something completely different because even a brilliant imitation of Nicholson’s Joker will be just an imitation, and a disappointing one at that. The only person I can think of who can carry that weight would be Gary Oldman. Perhaps he and Heath should switch roles. Plus, I know a lot of people are gonna be complaining over the Brokeback dude playing The Joker, but just remember… this movie will never be as gay as “Batman Forever” or “Batman and Robin”.
