Over 60 Iranians volunteer militants left Tehran and started their journey towards Lebanon to aid Hezbollah in their “Holy War” against Israel. According to the volunteers, they will be joining 200 other recruits on the Turkish border, then head through Syria and into Lebanon. Amir Jalilinejad, chairman of the Student Justice Movement said, “We are just the first wave of Islamic warriors from Iran. More will come from here and other Muslim nations around the world. Hezbollah needs our help.”

The small group was a heterogeneous one, composed of inexperienced university students and older volunteers who’ve had previous combat training. Hasan Honavi, 72, who fought in the 1980-88 war with Iraq said, “I still have fight left in me for a holy war.” Although they are not armed, it is still not clear if turkey will allow them to cross. Iran insists that it is not directly involved with Hezbollah, but rather a strong ally of Hezbollah.
