Fadl Hamdan, a Hamas member of parliament in Palestine, was kidnapped when Israeli troops broke into his house in Ramallah. Israel has refused to give any reason for the capture. This incident comes one day after another member of the Palestinian parliament, Aziz Dweik, was arrested by Israeli forces. So far, Israel has detained around 30 other members of parliament and a third of the cabinet in the past six weeks.

Palestinian officials have unsuccessfully called on the international community to intervene to secure the release of their democratically elected government. Additionally, the deputy Prime Minister has accused Israel of trying to assassinate him and the Prime Minister. This accusation comes after several Palestinian government workers sought medical attention when they opened a suspicious package addressed to the PM. An unknown substance within the package gave the workers headaches and caused them to have trouble breathing. Palestinian Prime Minister, Ismail Haniyeh, has previously said that the Israeli offensive was a “premeditated plan” to bring down Palestine’s Hamas-led government.
