UK Says They’ve Foiled a Terrorist Plot

Scotland Yard in the United Kingdom has revealed this morning that they’ve arrested 21 people who had allegedly been plotting to blow up as many as 10 planes flying from the UK to the United States. The current threat level in the UK has risen to the highest possible level, “critical”, implying that a terror threat is imminent.

Hand luggage is not being allowed on any flight in the UK after it was reported that the suspected terrorists had planned on carrying explosives in their carry-on luggage. A BBC reporter at Heathrow airport said there are “ranks of people” who can’t get into the terminal. “Terminal One is completely at a standstill. Nobody is being checked in at all.” Tony Blair released a statement saying, “There has been an enormous amount of co-operation with the US authorities which has been of great value and underlines the threat we face and our determination to counter it”.

Not to say this terrorist plot couldn’t be possible, but the timing should seem awful suspicious to anyone who’s been paying attention to the news lately. With most Americans and Britons against the war, a civil war starting in Iraq, a current war in Lebanon and Palestine, and one day after pro-war Lieberman’s defeat in the primary elections, another terrorist plot is coincidentally unraveled which takes focus off of these issues and puts the spotlight on the need to kill “them” before they kill us. But maybe I’m just a skeptic. Staged or not, this alleged plot will change the mindset of many. Fear is an effective weapon, whether harnessed by terrorists or our own government.

  1. Genious. Let’s let them go so far and then stop them. Now no one says, “Why couldn’t we stop them? Why isn’t our government protecting us?” And in the same breath believe there’s “Still a threat.”

You’re not dealing with morons here.

  2. I’m not really in doubt to whether or not this foiled terrorist plot is authentic. The timing IS rather lousy, (I’ll get back to that in a second), but the whole thing is absolutely plausible. What I don’t get is how come this sort of thing isn’t happening on a damn near daily basis. It’s been almost 5 years since Sept. 11th, and since then the US and Britain have done nothing but increase their presence in nothing less than, to put it lightly, a Destabilizing capacity for the entire region. And now with the blatent overly aggressive retaliation of Israel over the last month, aren’t the Industrial Western Powers only fueling the fervor of terrorists, even going so far as to justify their attacks? Why aren’t we seeing more of this? And also, for the Neo-Cons and their half-brained sympathizers, these kind of plots are indeed ‘Stark Reminders of our War on Terror.’ It only throws into sharp contrast that the US military policy of “Shock and Awe,” as well as the entire fiasco of the Iraq occupation, DIDN’T GET ‘EM! I think it’s time to rethink our [non-existant] strategy.

  3. i love the way the guy in the second photo is pointing his gun directly at the other officer’s face. i feel so secure knowing these are the professionals in charge of my safety.
