A UN Security Council resolution was accepted by both the Israeli Cabinet and Hezbollah for a ceasefire as of 0500 GMT on Monday the 14 th. The resolution also states that UN and Lebanese peace keeping forces will be deployed around Lebanon. Israel refuses to leave Lebanon until the UN-Lebanese force is in place, which may take up to a month according to UN deputy secretary general, Mark Malloch Brown. There are plans to disarm Hezbollah, though they have vowed to militarily resist Israeli occupation until the last soldier leaves their country. UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan, was reportedly “very happy”, but said “the fighting should stop now”. Iran also welcomed the truce but added that it was unbalanced as it did not criticize Israel’s war crimes in Lebanon.

Early Sunday morning, Israel killed 13 Lebanese people, including a mother and her three children. Petrol stations were also hit by Israeli bombs, covering the city of Tyre with thick clouds of smoke. Meanwhile, one Israeli woman was killed by Hezbollah rockets in the Israeli town of Yaara. Israel claims that 40 Hezbollah guerrillas have been killed at the Litani River. Hezbollah denies this claim. Around 30,000 Israeli soldiers are currently in southern Lebanon. Since the 12th of July, over 1,000 Lebanese have died in Israeli attacks. The majority of the casualties have been innocent civilians.
