8-12-06 US/UK Disagreement Over Terror Arrests

U.S. and British authorities disagreed on when to break up an alleged plot to blow up airliners bound for the United States, officials say.

This seems to confirm my previous skepticism about the airline plot. Like George Carlin says, safety procedures are all about the illusion of security in lieu of any real measures to keep us safe. Banning liquid in carry-on luggage does not keep us safe, and all rational thinkers know this. Much to the advantage of our government, rationality is easily trumped by fear. In America, over $430 billion was spent on terror propaganda alone in the last five years. In Britain, where this plot was supposedly jumping off, only 2 percent of Muslims which are arrested on terror charges are actually convicted of anything. All of this is acceptable for those who fear our freedom is actually under attack by foreign elements rather than those right here at home who deem us guilty until proven innocent. Shoot first and ask questions later; it’s all justified in a climate of hysteria. They tighten the noose and we praise them for it. That’s the war on terror.
