Bushra Sultan, a pregnant 27 year-old Palestinian woman, died at an Israeli military checkpoint in the West Bank on Tuesday. Sultan was being brought to a hospital due to complications in her sixth month of pregnancy. Israeli soldiers stopped the ambulance and prevented it from bringing her the medical facility. Bushra Sultan’s death is especially sorrowful since she was a mother of two children, one being handicap. The Ministry of Health has reported that last month alone, over 68 women were forced to give birth at Israeli military checkpoints. In that month, 34 fetuses and 4 women died at those checkpoints in the occupied territories of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Ambulances are routinely stopped and inspected at Israeli checkpoints, and often denied access in emergency situations. It should also be noted that denying emergency services and freedom of movement to civilian populations is a clear violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention and the Hague Convention.

  1. This is just barbaric and inhuman .

  2. That’s just wrong! I had toxemia with my first pregnancy and retained so much water that I swelled up like a balloon. My brother-in-law took one look at my stocking feet and asked me why I was wearing my socks on top of my boots! When I removed my socks to show him the swelling, he grimaced and said, “I don’t think I want my wife to get pregnant
