Disgraced Republican Foley Shocks the World by Admitting He’s Gay

Though former congressman Foley still has not spoken publicly about salacious messages he sent to minors, he is finally starting to accept some responsibility through statements put out by his lawyer. Sticking to the molestation story, Foley’s attorney, David Roth, says Foley was molested between the ages of 13 and 15 by a clergyman he refuses to identify. Roth told reporters, “Mark Foley wants you to know he is a gay man.” He then went on to say that Foley, “does not blame the trauma he sustained as a young adolescent for his totally inappropriate e-mails.” Though one might ask why Foley would even tell the press such an incident occurred if not to use it as justification or even sympathy over his current predatory behavior.

Though Roth acknowledged Foley’s emails were “totally inappropriate”, he also stated that, “any suggestion that Mark Foley is a pedophile is false.” Roth said Foley offered “no excuse whatsoever for his conduct”, but then stated that sexual abuse and alcohol abuse were to blame. Setting a record for the most contradictions in a speech, Roth also said Foley was under the influence of alcohol when he sent the messages, but was never intoxicated while conducting business on Capitol Hill. However, when confronted with the fact that Foley sent messages to a teen during a vote on the House floor, Roth could not explain the inconsistency of his story.

  1. Well, if he’s going after 16 year olds I would have to agree that he’s not a pedophile. Pedophiles are interested in pre-pubescents, not adolescents. And although I find it hilarious that a “moral majority” representative turned out to be a card carrying NAMBLA member, this whole thing is being blown out of proportion. 16 years old is the age of consent in a lot of states, and if this “page” was a girl no one would give a shit about it.

    It’s funny how non-issues like the particular perversions of someone’s sex life can effect a general election like this. God forbid people vote on the issues, instead of the current smear campaigns or popularity contests.

  2. to me, the most entertaining thing about this scandal is the level of hypocrisy involved. i think that’s why it’s such a big deal to the democrats, having been accused of moral bankruptcy themselves during the lewinsky impeachment. now it’s their turn to get even by pointing fingers. it’s childish, but that’s politics.

    another interesting thing about this is that a great number of the people outraged are the republicans. the democrats could care less if the man is gay or not. to them it’s a matter of pedophilia and hypocrisy. to the republicans it’s a gay issue, and that’s what they’re trying to make this into.
