Keith Olbermann reported on how the elimination of Habeus Corpus in the Military Commissions Act of 2006 negates the Bill of Rights. Apparently, this act takes on one of the roles of an Official Secrets Act, which in countries such as Great Britain, restricts anyone working with sensitive information. Because of the First Amendment, America has never had such a law, until now. The passing of the Military Commissions Act of 2006 was conveniently overshadowed by the Foley scandal, and the timing of said scandal was then blamed on the Democrats.

[…] With the Military Commissions Act bringing about the elimination of Habeas Corpus, the right to defend yourself in a court of law, hear evidence of accused crimes, and face a judge are no longer rights, but privileges which can be suspended indefinitely. And with this troubling precedent I haven’t heard more than a peep out of the mainstream media. What is America without liberty and justice for all? What could be more newsworthy than an act which could jail reporters for delivering the news? I could go on about how devastating this is, not only to our human rights, but our identity as Americans. Fortunately for you, Keith Olbermann has once again spared me the effort. No one has summed it up better than Keith. […]
