Jetpacks Are Not the Future!

The other day I came across a link on Yahoo to a video clip of a jetpack device. The caption on the clip read, “the future has arrived - this guy has his own jet pack”. Overjoyed with this good news, I immediately took a screen capture. Yes it’s true ladies and gentlemen. Click on the thumbnail to the left if you need proof.

Now I’d hate to ruin the lame fantasy that some of you might have, but jetpacks are not the future! Now you know I’m serious because I don’t believe in throwing around exclamation marks. Hell, even Buck Rogers used a jetpack and anyone who still knows who he is gets a senior discount at Denny’s. If you can find a black and white photo of a “technological wonder”, it’s a pretty safe bet that the device in that photo is not from the future. Jetpacks should only be thought of as transportation of the future to recently dethawed flappers. Claiming that jetpacks are “the future” is equivalent to saying refrigerators are the next big thing. It’s just stupid, so stop it.

  1. Wait…so you’re saying you *don’t* want your own jetpack?!

  2. with the cost of gas, it’s just not practical. plus, it’d be a lot cooler if jetpacks actually made you fly horizontal at mach speed like the rocketeer. however, i’ve played pilotwings enough to know better. you just bounce around in a standing position and constantly miss your targets which are two feet in front of you. i’d rather have a giant hummingbird to ride around on. now that would be cool.
