This is a clip of Stephen Colbert’s first appearance on The Daily Show back in 1997. Back then the show was hosted by Craig Kilborn instead of Jon Stewart. Kilborn introduces Colbert as “the new guy” before his report on a kidnapped library book. Most entertainers take months to develop a unique character. As you can tell from this clip, Stephen was brilliant from day one.
