Denise Grier, a nurse from Georgia, was pulled over by a cop in March for having a bumper sticker which read “I’m tired of all the Bushit”. The cop told Grier he pulled her over because she had a “lewd decal” on her car. She immediately thought one of her kids put something nasty on her bumper as a joke until the officer mentioned exactly what sticker he was referring to. After a brief exchange over the appropriateness of the sticker, Grier was ticketed $100 under the guise that the ticket was for lewdness, and not for the sticker’s anti-Bush message.

A suit has been filed on behalf of Grier by the ACLU of Georgia. She is seeking damages for emotional distress to a declaration that her bumper sticker “is considered constitutionally protected speech”. Gerry Weber, the legal director representing Grier said, “The indicators are that the officer didn’t like her views of President Bush and that was the motivating factor.” Grier also seeks punitive damages against the issuing officer, claiming that he violated her rights. The ticket itself was dismissed in April when a judge ruled that the state’s lewd decal law had been declared unconstitutional in 1991.

This is not the first time a member of the Grier family has been pulled over for their political views. Last year, her 20 year-old son was pulled over for having a bumper sticker that read, “Bush Sucks. Dick Cheney too.” The officer, in that case, threatened to take her son to jail if he did not remove the sticker, so he did. This time Denise Grier has vowed to fight back.

By the way, as part of my civic duty I’ve linked the wildly lewd pictures in this article to the actual sites which sell them. This way, you’ll know exactly what sites to stay away from when you’re searching for your next Jesus Votes Republican sticker. You’re welcome.
