Paul Wellstone was a two term Senator from Minnesota. A member of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party and a former professor of political science, Wellstone was a leading liberal spokesman for the progressive wing of the Democratic Party. On October 25, 2002, a private plane carrying Wellstone crashed ten days before his re-election. Wellstone was an outspoken opponent to several of Bush’s policies, including the invasion of Iraq. Two other charismatic liberals, Mel Carnahan and John F. Kennedy, also died in curious aviation accidents. Let’s hope that if Obama runs for president he’ll stay away from small planes before the elections.
