Jewish settlers in occupied Palestine attacked a group of Palestinian farmers, casting sticks and stones. Ibrahim Salah and his family were working in their field of olive trees when a mob of 50 settlers, some of them with metal bars and guns, descended upon his group. His son Basel was pummeled with stones to the head, and required medical attention. Three other members of Salah’s family were also wounded by the militant Israeli settlers. Israeli troops arrived shortly to disperse the mob and evacuated Salah to the hospital.

The source does not indicate that any arrests were made, nor disciplinary actions taken against anyone in the mob. An Israeli police spokesman later said the incident occurred because the Palestinian family did not coordinate their harvesting with the proper authorities. Attacks on Palestinians from Jewish settlers have increased in recent years, so much so that the army is regularly dispatched to protect farmers during harvest season. Additionally, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz has reported that Jewish settlements, which are illegal under international law, are expanding rampantly in the West Bank. Olive harvest this year is expected to be essential to the poverty-stricken Palestinians who have been targeted for ethnic cleansing in the occupied territories. Israeli settlers have also been known to damage or uproot literally thousands of olive trees during harvest season.
