Republican Senator Olympia Snowe of Maine, and Democratic Senator Jay Rockefeller of West Virginia have sent a letter to Exxon Mobil chairman and CEO Rex Tillerson. The senators asked for Exxon Mobil to “end any further financial assistance” to groups “whose public advocacy has contributed to the small but unfortunately effective climate change denial myth.”
“We are convinced that Exxon Mobil’s long-standing support of a small cadre of global climate change skeptics, and those skeptics’ access to and influence on government policymakers, have made it increasingly difficult for the United States to demonstrate the moral clarity it needs across all facets of its diplomacy,” the letter continued.
An upcoming study from the Union of Concerned Scientists reports that in 2004 alone, Exxon Mobil funded 29 global warming denial groups. Since 1990 the record-breaking oil giant has spent more than $19 million to promote groups that deny global warming through print and online publications that are not peer reviewed by the scientific community.

This is fascism pure and simple. You just know that Rockefeller was sending a veiled threat–”cut off the funding for the DENIERS or else.
Science has always had dissent and done just fine because ultimately, real truth simply can’t be denied. There is unfortunately, very little truth attached to the anthropogenic warming argument. What we have is a bunch of half-baked theories that desperately need some dissent.
If Rockefeller and his fellow fascist want to win the argument, then they should make one, instead of engaging in totalitarian tactics of silencing their critics.

Have you seen An Inconvenient Truth? The science behind the presentation shows the correlation between human activities and global warming pretty clearly. Interesting that the Nobel Peace Prize just went to those scientists (and Al Gore) for their work on global warming.

Mick, seriously, what is wrong with you? No i really mean that! Is the part of your brain that looks at facts and evidence and concludes that they are correct deformed or something? I’m surprised you’ve manage to find the correlation between pressing keys on your keyboard and them magically appearing on your computer screen. If you don’t think that pumping chemicals into the air to the point of changing its composition is going to change it, then how about you try this experiment. Pick a food, drink, anything, and let that be the only thing you consume. If for example, plain white bread. Eat only that, and nothing else. Don’t drink anything, except perhaps water so you don’t die during the experiment. After a few weeks, notice your body is changing? degrading? A few months later, how will you be feeling then? Years, decades? It stuffs you, doesn’t it. Multiply that by a factor of the whole planet. It’s not just the planet warming, it’s not just CO2 level, it’s all of it pushed to the edge and out of balance. If we get through global warming, then we’ll just be faced with another problem unless we change our attitudes to the environment, and ourselves.
