“Republican Officials” have just notified the A.P. that Secretary of Defense, Donald “the Duck” Rumsfield intends to resign.
For some, these past two days might be considered a dream pie made with real dreams. With democrats taking the House last night, and the Senate up for grabs (only one set left to go now), and now with Rummy’s resignation we’ve woken up to a (seemingly) changed American political landscape.
As I’m writing this post the President is making a statement… He is being conciliatory, congratulatory and a little condescending. He and Rumsfield agree that its time for a “Change of leadership at the Pentagon.”
Bob Gates, a former leader of the CIA and current president of Texas A&M university (*cough*), has been asked to become the new Secretary of Defense. According to Bush, they first met to speak about the Gates’ appointment a week ago, and he and Rumsfield met for last time yesterday. I’m sure that we’ll be inundated with informaion regarding Mr. Gates in the very near future.
This event raises several questions, one of which was just asked by one of the reporters present at the press conference.
Reporter: Before the election, you said that you had full confidence in Donald Rumsfield, whats changed?
Bush: The Democrats won, thats what changed.
Five minutes later, he said that he won’t let politics govern his strategy in Iraq. This is classic. More to come later.

On the way into work this morning, NPR was asking every interviewee including Senator Levin of Michigan (D) about the outing of Rumsfeld. They didn’t really respond, nor did they really engage in the question. So, less than an hour later, Rumsfeld was canned. Damn dude, am I in the same country? Or does this dream pie (made with dreams) come with a piece of dream cake (made with dream frosting) too?
