Despite the Democrats’ best efforts, they won the Senate and the House. Was their strategy of leaving doorknob fliers, accidentally calling the troops retarded, and being unclear about an Iraq exit plan all a work of genius? Probably not, but I will give Dean credit for his plan of reaching out to all voters instead of just relying on safe bets. That inclusive mindset is probably what slid the Democrats into narrow victories to eventually grab the Senate. Let’s just hope that this election was not only a wake-up call for the Republicans, but for the Democrats too. The people want change.

I’m very curious what the readers of this website think about the Democrats taking the Senate? As much as I’ve been an advocate for change in our legislative branch I can’t help but think that the Democrats taking both the Senate and the House won’t be our nation’s salvation. I would have preferred that the Senate remain split during this time of transition. As we all know, a simple majority won’t get you much in the Senate, usually you need at least 60 votes to get something passed. Its the perception that the Democrats have swooped in like the calvary to save the day that I’m not comfortable with. With ideologies on Capitol Hill swinging from one extreme to the other balanced dialog and non-partisanship will get lost.
While we’re at it, are the ideologies we’re talking about really that disparate these days? Republicans aren’t anything close to what would have been considered conservative in the past, at least with regard to their fiscal policies, and their proclivity to concern themselves with the personal affairs of the citizenry. And Democrats… who even knows what that means anymore.
So the question is, is it good that the Dems took the Senate?

I think it’s great that the Dems took the Senate if for no other reason than to resist the policies of our retarded executive branch. Everything that the regime has wanted to do, they got to do because the Congress, like a little annoying shitzu, was right behind them. Sadly, though, that’s all I can really expect from the Dems. They have no plan to get out of Iraq, other than cutting and running (How the fuck can you as a nation destabilize an entire region and then just skip out? Not even 10 year olds get away with that kind of shit!) They also, despite having recent history and all the facts behind them, still don’t have the balls to impeach Bush. I just goes to show how much the GOP has their shit together. They impeached the Prez because of a blow job and an understandable fib. To think that, with Bush’s record, the Democrats can’t do the same thing is preposterous! So yeah, as far as handing things like the invasion of Iraq and the Patriot act and the elimination of Habeas Corpus to the prez on a silver platter, I think the Dems taking the Congress is a very good thing. The president and his administration are actually gonna have to work, and bribe, a little harder to move their agenda forward.
On a personal note however, I would not be opposed to Congress just take some time off and do Absolutely Nothing for the next 4 years. Please!
