The deputy defense minister of Israel suggested Friday that the nation may launch a military strike against Iran. “I am not advocating an Israeli pre-emptive military action against Iran and I am aware of its possible repercussions,” Deputy Defense Minister Ephraim Sneh said. “I consider it a last resort. But even the last resort is sometimes the only resort.” This “last resort” is in response to Iran’s nuclear weapons program of which there is no evidence. Government spokeswoman Miri Eisin covered Sneh’s tracks by saying his comments did not reflect the view of the government.

Prime Minister Olmert, who is headed to Washington on Sunday, said; “I have enormous respect for President Bush. He is absolutely committed. I know that America will not allow Iran to possess nuclear weapons because this is a danger to the whole Western world.” The Bush administration and Israel both claim that Iran is using its nuclear energy program as a front for a nuclear weapons program, while Iran says the program is only for peaceful purposes. Both the United States and Israel possess nuclear weapons.

Based on a mistranslation of a speech, western and Israeli leaders claim Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has called for the destruction of Israel. In fact, Ahmadinejad has only ever called for the elimination of Israel’s fascist regime. There is also evidence that the United States and Israel planned their attack on Hezbollah in Lebanon as a test-run for a war with Iran. The US has not used diplomatic options with Iran in 27 years.

  2. […] Israeli Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert, came under attack from the Democratic Party yesterday for praising the Iraq War, and actually claimed that the American operation brought stability to the Middle East. Of course, Olmert’s idea of stability means stability for Israel, not the Middle East. Israel holds more power over the region now that Iraq has been taken out of the equation. Is it any wonder that American and Israeli officials are working together on doing the same to Iran? The comments were made after the Israeli PM visited the White House for talks with President Bush.
