Israeli Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert, came under attack from the Democratic Party yesterday for praising the Iraq War, and actually claimed that the American operation brought stability to the Middle East. Of course, Olmert’s idea of stability means political stability for Israel, not the Middle East. Israel has held more power over the region since Iraq ceased being a functioning country.

Is it any wonder that American and Israeli officials are working together on doing the same to Iran? The comments were made after the Israeli PM visited the White House for talks with President Bush.

After the meeting, Bush then called for the world to unite in isolating Iran until it “gives up its nuclear ambitions.” Bush continued, “If they continue to move forward with the program, there has to be a consequence.” He then tried to convince Iran that isolating the country is an international position rather than an Israeli or an American one. “It’s very important for the world to unite to say to the Iranians, ‘If you choose to continue to move forward, you will be isolated,’” Bush said. “One source of isolation would be economic.”

Olmert, hypocritically accused Iran of “fanaticism and extremism,” voiced support for United States-led efforts to impose UN sanctions on Iran, and said Tehran must not be allowed to “cross the technological threshold” to develop a nuclear bomb. Israel itself has between 75-200 nuclear weapons, but has never confirmed nor denied their existence. “Iran’s role in the conversation was quite clear, very serious and very significant, and I left this meeting with an outstanding feeling,” said Olmert.

Olmert and Bush spoke about the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, but only condemned the Palestinians for not wanting peace. The issue of evacuating outposts was not raised during the meeting. Olmert also said Bush expressed pride in the American veto of the UN Security Council resolution to condemn the Israeli shelling of the Gaza town of Beit Hanoun.

  1. […] Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Tuesday that he was ready to talk to the US if there was a change in attitude from Washington. The secretary of state was also hypocritical of Syria, saying it was “causing problems of extraordinary proportions in Lebanon”. She went on to say that she would talk to “anybody, anywhere, any time” given the “right circumstances”. In other words, Condi will only go out of her way to speak with world leaders who praise US foreign policy. Diplomacy is only an option with those nations where diplomacy is not needed. Rice concluded by saying that she did not see any easy solutions to ending the violence in Iraq. […]

  2. […] Israel’s summer war with Hezbollah has allowed the state to sway even further to the far-right. After the American midterm elections, Israel’s Prime Minister openly praised George W. Bush for starting the Iraq War, claiming it brought “stability” to the region. In regards to Palestine, Israel’s Deputy Prime Minister Avigdor Lieberman has said that all peace deals must be abandoned and that all Palestinian leaders must “go to paradise”. Lieberman insists that there can be no compromise, and enjoys a frighteningly large amount of support. […]

  3. […] Bush-lovers don’t have to be psychotic, but it certainly helps. Christopher Lohse, a social work master’s student at Southern Connecticut State University, has proven a direct correlation between mental illness and one’s likelihood to support President Bush. Lohse’s thesis, backed by SCSU Psychology professor Jaak Rakfeldt and statistician Misty Ginacola, draws on a survey of 69 psychiatric outpatients in three Connecticut locations during the 2004 presidential election.
