Nick Raynsford, current Labour MP and former minister of PM Tony Blair, accused the Bush administration of being “incompetent” and guilty of “appalling complacency” today. Mr. Raynsford also called on Blair to step down within “the next few months to ensure an orderly transfer of power” in the UK.

“It’s absolutely right that the American people have expressed their concern over the situation in Iraq and about the Bush administration, and I’m delighted that Democrats now have control of both houses,” Raynsford said in an interview. “I think that will result in a shift of attitude and there are many areas of American policy that should be changed.” The MP, who held four ministerial posts during Blair’s first two terms, criticized US policies under President Bush, despite Blair’s close working relations.

“Take climate change, for example, where the evidence shows appalling complacency on the part of the Bush administration, unwilling to face the reality of what is happening,” he said. “They were also, frankly, incompetent in the way in which they responded to Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.”
