CIA Finds No Nuclear Weapons Program in Iran

Contrary to claims made by the White House and Israel, a classified draft CIA assessment has found no evidence of a drive by Iran to develop nuclear weapons. Writing in the New Yorker, Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Seymour Hersh reported on whether the Bush administration would be more, or less, inclined to attack Iran after Democrats won control of Congress.

A month before the midterm elections Hersh reported a statement made by Cheney that the White House would circumvent any legislative restrictions “and thus stop Congress from getting in its way.” Hersh concluded that a Democratic victory would not stop the White House from pursuing a military option with Iran. “The CIA found no conclusive evidence, as yet, of a secret Iranian nuclear-weapons program running parallel to the civilian operations that Iran has declared to the International Atomic Energy Agency,” Hersh wrote.

Recently, Tony Blair and the Iraq Study Group have called on the Bush administration to begin direct talks with Iran. On all occasions, the White House has refused. Additionally, Israeli PM Olmert has actually praised Bush for starting the Iraq War and is now calling for a similar act of aggression against Iran. In a recent meeting with President Bush, Olmert said, “Iran’s role in the conversation was quite clear, very serious and very significant, and I left this meeting with an outstanding feeling.”

In a previous article, Hersh exposed that Israel’s war against Hezbollah was simply a training exercise for a preemptive US war against Iran. Israel’s defense minister has recently stated that a military strike against Iran is a possibility. If the US does not get directly involved in a war with Iran, the White House will simply back Israel with weapons and funding as they did in Lebanon.

  1. Of course they don’t have proof, like it stopped them the first time! But at least, hopefully, more people are paying attention this time. Given the “staffing issue” of our military, the notion of invading, and destablizing, yet another country is an even bigger logistical farce than the invasion of Iraq.
The Neo-Con “nuclear proliferation” argument is utterly bogus. The only reason we’re over there and not taking action in countries where proof of nuclear weaponization is actually conclusive, like I dunno, say North Korea, is because there’s no Oil in Korea. How anyone can swallow this shit anymore is beyond me. I theorize that the people who still do buy the shit of the Bush administration are the same people who equate birth control with abortion, evolution with satanism, and Jesus with Republican. When you’re wrong, you’re wrong. Period.

  2. […] Still, the United States and Israel have called on Russia to cease all weapons exports to Iran, as well as stopping any nuclear cooperation they might have with the Islamic Republic. Both the US and Israel claim Iran is planning on creating nuclear weapons, contrary to CIA and Russian reports which say the evidence of such a program is non-existent. In August, the US announced sanctions against 7 foreign companies, including two from India and two from Russia, for high-tech business dealings with Iran. The sanctions prohibit the companies from doing business with the US government or acquiring American high-technology items. […]

  3. […] In November, the CIA “found no conclusive evidence, as yet, of a secret Iranian nuclear-weapons program running parallel to the civilian operations that Iran has declared to the International Atomic Energy Agency,” according to Seymour Hersh. […]
