- Turkey has been, well, a bit of a turkey when it comes to freedom of speech. Insulting the state is a crime in Turkey. Scholars in the past have been jailed for recognizing the Armenian Genocide, which Turkey still denies. Others have been jailed for converting to Christianity. Now four Turks have been charged for translating and publishing “Manufacturing Consent” by Noam Chomsky.
- Apparently, the French were ordered not to shoot Bin Laden by the US military on two occasions when they had him in their sights 3 years ago. What’s a wild goose chase without a goose?
- Our friends at Martini Republic posted a little blast from the past link on market reform in Latin America. Yes, those free market guys are real visionaries. I bet they were greeted as liberators too.
- Since our RSS feed of the Daily Show hasn’t been as punctual, Crooks and Liars beat us to the punch with this interview between Jon Stewart and Bill Kristol. I can’t believe this guy is still using the old Republican talking points from 2001 to justify sending more troops to their death. The man is a true patriot, unafraid of death as long as it isn’t his own.
- Another top notch video from C&L is this discussion from Scarborough Country on how delusional the president is, and how he must be “relieved of command”. Definitely a must watch.
- Other than shoot black tar heroin and prey on naughty children, what does Santa do during the other 364 days of the year? Perhaps this photo manipulation competition will help to answer that question.
