- The Carnival of the Liberals has included my post of “Saddam’s Fall: The Hard-Earned Trophy” to their respectable line-up. This time the carnival is hosted at Daylight Atheism, so give them a visit. I’m pretty sure they’ll let you in even if you’re not an atheist, but just in case, don’t blow my cover.
- A Daily News exclusive tells us why Mr. Rudy “nine eleven changed everything” Guiliani is screwed in the ’08 elections. Is McCain our only hope for keeping Republican fascism in the White House?
- An Aboriginal tribe has won the right to jointly manage several state and national parks in Australia. This would give the tribe much greater involvement ever since they lost their claim to land in the Great Knifey-Spoony Game of 1770. If you don’t get that reference then I prescribe you watch more TV and stop reading so much.
- In one of Spiderman’s latest battles, he tackles the comic book version of the Bush administration and their war on terror. 10 Zen Monkeys arranges a debate between Spidey and the real life George Bush. Pow. Zap. Bort.
- Well, today seems like a day for heroes and villains. If you haven’t heard about this yet, here’s an amazing story about a man in New York who heroically saved a teenager about to get hit by a subway train by jumping on top of him as it passed over them. Meanwhile, the evil villain Bush grew in power after signing legislation to open anyone’s mail without a warrant. h/t to Martini Republic for both stories.
- Crooks and Liars present us with a video of Pelosi becoming the first female Speaker of the House. ‘Tis a historic day indeed. The orphans surrounding her look ecstatic. So is Pelosi a hero or villain? That saga has yet to be written, but I can confidently say that there’s nothing more disturbing than an entourage of children in suits.
- Now that Pelosi is the new speaker we can finally get down to the business of saving our country from the forces of evil right? Maybe not. David Sirota at AlterNet explains why the ethics “reform” Democrats are planning is like using sponges to save the Titanic. Corruption won’t die, it’s merely changing parties. If the Dems are really serious about change, they’ll adopt this 10 step program. Oh, please save us Green Arrow.
