Even with home court advantage, O’Reilly lost this match against his alterego. He tries to stick Colbert with his trademark French bashing but none of his tired insults stick. Colbert even had O’Reilly’s staff cracking up. You can hear them off camera. It’s a sad sign when you can’t even get respect on the set of your own show.
If you haven’t seen it yet, check out The Colbert Report interview with O’Reilly

The geriatric pencil dick got owned!
01/20/07 at 4:23 pm
To think that this was a combative event is stupid. It was a fun thing for both of them to do which each of their audiences would appreciate. Nobody got “owned.” Morons.

Having just seen it for the first time, I have to say that it looked almost like Bill’O was partly in on the bit. Colbert was sharp as ever. Bill’O played into Colbert’s exaggerated caricature. Honestly, I think they both, by mutual agreement, put on the kid gloves to “go at it” with each other. Certainly nothing on the level of Jon Stewart vs Tucker Carlson.

Ah yes, the Crossfire-Stewart exchange is classic. This is certainly not on the same level, though the mere fact that it even happened is historic. Even with kid gloves, I still submit that Colbert came out on top due to the fact that he was mildly entertaining while Bill was simply trying to get it over with. After the pundit swap I think Colbert made his most memorable comment at Bill’s expense in this clip a week later.
