Joe Biden, future gracious loser of the Democratic nomination, took his foot out of his mouth long enough to chat with Jon Stewart. Rather than spend the show analyzing his comment about Barack Obama, Stewart spent the bulk of the interview simply leading into the much-anticipated quote. Once the death blow to Biden’s campaign was inevitably presented for him to relive on the very day he announced his intention to run, the senator still insisted his quote was meant as a compliment. And just for good measure, Biden said he even went through the Kramer gauntlet of talking to Jesse Jackson, Rev. Sharpton, Rev. Al Green, Star Jones, both Kid and Play, and Gary Coleman.

Biden’s recent slip up reminds me of a similar “compliment” once given to Lisa Simpson by her fiance, Hugh: “you’re like a flower that grew out of a pot of dirt.” And now that I’ve successfully proven my nerdiness with a Simpson’s quote, please enjoy the hilarity of the interview.
