In addition to the 3 bombers who carried out the attack, 65 suspects were arrested by Iranian security forces yesterday for their involvement in a Friday explosion at a girls school in Zahedan. Police recovered about 120 pounds of explosives in the aftermath of the bombing. “Some people suspected of being behind the Friday bombing have been arrested,” a military official told the Fars News Agency.
The percussion explosion did not kill anyone, but authorities suspect the act was connected to a deadly bombing on Wednesday which targeted a bus carrying members of the Revolutionary Guard, killing 11 and injuring 31. Five people were arrested in connection to that act. The leader of Jondollah, a militant Sunni group, claimed responsibility for the school explosion, and said his group was also responsible for the Wednesday car bomb in the same area.
Police said they had obtained unspecified documents linking the United States and Britain to the rebels behind the two bombings. Documents, photographs, and film footage showing the explosives and arsenals used were American will soon be made public. “International organizations can send their representatives to investigate the documents showing involvement of America and Britain in the blasts,” Sultan Ali Mir, a senior local official, said.
Authorities suspect the goal of the bombings was to create a schism between Shiite and Sunni populations, undermining national Iranian unity. After Wednesday’s bombing, a funeral held for the victims led to a large turnout of Shiites and Sunnis. This massive participation between the two sects is said to have angered the group, sparking Friday night’s attack. If US involvement is proven, this certainly wouldnt be the first time our government has attempted to destabilize Iran through divisionary attacks.

Unfortunately our history in the US doesn’t really support any claims of innocence the government might make. Do you think its ever possible for the leaders of a state to reject the kind of violence that their predecessors used?
