Colbert discussed the meaning behind the British pullout during the Word last night. Always eager to spin failure to their advantage, the Bush administration claimed the pullout was a sign that we’re winning, despite British explanations to the contrary. Stephen reasons that coalition withdrawal from Iraq is essential for democracy and success (unless you’re talking about American withdrawal).

Later on in the show, Colbert interviewed Israeli author Zev Chafets who basically argued in favor of the Judeo-Evangelical alliance in the ongoing war against Muslims. Unfortunately, Colbert didn’t take Chafets to task, focusing more on the motives of Evangelicals to help the Jews than on the motives either side has in fighting the Muslims.
