Stewart gives a rundown of the liberal messages littered throughout the Academy Awards which may have left a bad taste in the mouth of conservatives (assuming they have televisions in the first place and don’t already have a bad taste in their mouth from kissing their sister). Yes, it was a Godless awards show complete with tree-huggers, carpet-munchers, and Mexicans who crossed the border to take our awards. Stewart also takes a swipe at the ridiculousness behind the notion of the Oscars going green.

I happen to be a bit more optimistic about the show. I think most people write off Hollywood as insignificant for what it is without understanding what it can do. While Hollywood harbors the pointless and self-absorbed (acting as a virtual bug-light for the most egotistical people of all states and nations to come and fulfill their dream of being worshiped) it has also permeated every society, becoming a moderator of all cultures. The triumph here is not in this year’s award show “going green”, but in the impact a green awards show may have on its viewers. If Hollywood is making it cool and trendy to be environmentally conscious, then that may actually be what it takes to save the world. Could the shallowest of people end up saving our species from extinction? Now that would be an ironic twist worthy of an Oscar.
