- The US is actually going to participate in a conference with Iran and Syria? Did Baghdad freeze over? Yes, it seems as though after years of war, the Bush administration may actually try diplomacy!
- It doesn’t happen often, but every now and then I think, “Senator Kerry is pretty awesome.” During a senate hearing over the qualifications of Sam Fox, a St. Louis businessman to become ambassador to Belgium, Kerry grilled him about his generous contributions to the Swift Boat Veterans group which had pummeled the former presidential candidate with unsubstantiated slurs about his military service during the 2004 election. Fox said he became involved because “it’s necessary if the other side’s doing it,” to which Kerry responded, “So is that your judgment that you would bring to the ambassadorship, that two wrongs make a right?” Payback’s a bitch.
- Dick Cheney recently accused China of building up its military, and said that testing their anti-satellite missile does not represent a “peaceful rise.” On the other side of the coin, US military spending is more than six times that of China, even though they’re over 4 times larger. Their military growth is also fairly consistent with their economic growth. Perhaps I’m out of line, but bombing the hell out of a non-threatening third-world nation doesn’t exactly represent the actions of a peaceful country either, does it Mr. Cheney?
- After hundreds of years of American independence it’s probably not a good sign when the British monarchy seems to be more in touch with the issues of the people than the tyrants we currently have in charge of our “democracy”. First, Prince Harry is being sent to Iraq, and now Prince Charles has suggested banning McDonalds. Heroes both. The latter was quoted as asking a nutritionist in the United Arab Emirates, “Have you got anywhere with McDonald’s? Have you tried getting it banned? That’s the key.” Of course, McDonalds is insulted that its “food” was given such a bad review by the prince, who has been an advocate for organic foods for decades.
- Have you ever wanted to vandalize the airbrushed face of a model advertising some miscellaneous product, but thought that spray paint and Sharpies have been done to death? Well, perhaps printable cold sores will be more your style. This “geek graffiti” only requires a set of transparency stickers from your local office supply store and access to a color printer. Of course, I’m required by law to inform you that this method of getting your point across is not only against the law but a lot of fun too.
