  • Ivan Safronov, a Russian journalist critical of the government, died after “falling” out of a fifth-story window. People closest to Ivan suspect foul play. Since 2006, 14 journalists, including Safronov, have been murdered in contract-style killings by Russian authorities. It’s a good thing we don’t have that problem in the United States (and by “problem” I mean critical reporting, not contract killings).
  • Two teenage girls were arrested for placing stickers on illegal campaign signs endorsing Councilman Gary Clifford. The stickers alerted people to the fact that the signs were illegal, reading, “This sign violates Glendora city ordinance”. Clifford, a former cop, happened to be the one to arrest the girls, and has also been accused of placing his campaign signs on people’s lawns without permission. In short, the guy’s a dick… a short dick.
  • Associated Press footage of an attack in Afghanistan, in which US soldiers indiscriminately fired into a crowd and killed 10 civilians, was erased by US troops afterwards. Both images and video of the incident were destroyed by troops who told reporters they didn’t have permission to take images in the area. Al Jazeera was able to obtain some footage. Not too far behind, nine more Afghan civilians, including five women and three children, were killed in a US-led bombing. Thousands of local people protested in Afghanistan Sunday in response to the US knowingly endangering civilian lives.
  • Drew Curtis of Fark.com explains why the media passes off bunk as news. He says capitalism consumes all things good, turning them into a digested mass of poison for the most horrendous appetites of our soul. Well, he didn’t say exactly that, but pretty close.
  • Finally, a bit of fun. Here’s a test to see if you can name all 50 states in 10 minutes. If that’s far too easy for a Mensa member like you, who probably acts all high and mighty with big words and stuff for not having one incident of inbreeding within his immediate family, then try to name all 192 UN member states in the same amount of time.
