A suicide attacker has walked into a crowded Iraqi cafe and detonated a bomb, killing at least 30 people and wounding 29.

The man struck in the town of Baladruz, north-east of Baghdad, in a district inhabited by members of the area’s Shia Kurd minority.

In a separate attack on Wednesday three US soldiers were killed north-west of the capital.

The soldiers died when they were struck by a roadside bomb while on a route clearance mission.

Earlier today, 22 people were killed in a Sunni district of southern Baghdad. Snipers opened fire as Shia pilgrims travelled to a religious festival. Police fired back to protect the pilgrims before a car bomb exploded, killing 12 policemen and 10 civilians. The attack comes a day after at least 115 Shia pilgrims were killed in Hilla. Pilgrims remain undaunted by the violence, continuing to gather in the streets to resume their pilgrimage.
