Koppel was on the Colbert Report the other night to joust with Stephen and discuss Our Children’s Children’s War, a new documentary on the Discovery Channel about the “War on Terror”. Koppel explains that, unbeknownst to the public, US troops are present in every corner of the world, and that securing our capitalist interests against global guerilla fighters could last 100 years. The Iraq War is only the beginning. He further points out that focusing solely on violent means to win this war, as we’ve been doing forever, is a grave mistake. Koppel doesn’t say it outright, but this never-ending war could be avoided completely if our actions to fight terrorists did more than just bread more of them. Then again, global terrorism is the greatest thing to ever happen to the military-industrial complex.
