Iran’s UN ambassador has a new proposal he hopes will deter the imperialistic governments of America and Israel who keep pushing for military action over diplomacy. Ambassador Javid Zarif said in an interview with Time magazine that Iran’s nuclear facilities could be monitored by America through participation.

“Iran could agree that its nuclear facilities, including all of its uranium enrichment plants, could be jointly owned by an international consortium. All countries with concerns, including the US, could participate in that consortium,” said Zarif. Such a consortium would allow for built-in monitoring. “It is an issue of respect. Of course you are monitoring as you do this, but you are doing it with respect as owners and operators.”

Zarif’s interview appeared as the UN Security Council considered how to respond to Iran’s refusal to give up their nuclear power rights. Though not willing to give up its right to enrich uranium, even under intense international pressure, Iran does seem willing to give up its energy sovereignty. This is seen as an effort to avoid invasion, and satisfy unfounded speculation of a nuclear weapons program.
