On Saturday, the Largest Minority took a break from our keyboards and participated in a mass national demonstration organized by the A.N.S.W.E.R Coalition. Well, actually I took a break from the keyboard. Matt was liveblogging from the event on his fancy new phone. Every age group, religion, and ethnicity was represented. The six-lane stretch of Hollywood Blvd was packed with unhappy citizens giving their government a lesson in democracy. An estimated total of nearly 50,000 people marched in LA, and well over 100,000 marched nationwide.
This particular demonstration, carried out on St. Patrick’s Day, marked the fourth anniversary of the Iraq War. With over 600,000 Iraqis dead and over 3,200 US soldiers dead, rational minds must prevail. We’re calling on the Democrats to finally take charge and do what the American people have demanded of them. War with Iran must also be taken off the table, while impeachment of the president should seriously be pursued.
Speaking at a rally point at the end of the march were parents of US soldiers killed in combat in Iraq, as well as several veterans against the war. Congresswoman Maxine Waters and actor Martin Sheen spoke to the crowd as well. Following the speakers were anti-war performances by Jackson Browne (whom I had to cut for time) and Ben Harper. Ozomatli was the headliner, playing an indescribable 30 minute set which transformed a disenchanted mass of 50,000 people from all walks of life into the largest street party I’ve ever seen.
The songs featured in the video are as follows:
Immortal Technique - The 4th Branch
Ben Harper - Gather ‘Round The Stone
Ozomatli - Cant Stop

Update: I reposted this video to YouTube after making a few minor revisions. Hence, the original YouTube url doesn’t work anymore. Link this new version and I promise not to mess around with it anymore.
