What? No way! I was so shocked that I spit soda all over my keyboard when I read my own title. Odd thing is I wasn’t even drinking soda.

In an uncharacteristic move, Israel is lobbying hard to block the United States’ proposed sale of high tech weaponry to Saudi Arabia and other US allies in the Middle East. With the US selling arms to Middle Eastern allies, Israel says they’re afraid the sales may compromise their superiority in the region. US officials say that Israeli objections have made the plan far more complicated. Um, can someone please explain why Israel is telling us what to do?

Former Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz is among the Israelis who have visited Washington to argue against parts of the planned sales, which, one defense industry executive told the Times, includes some $5 billion to $10 billion in tanks, air defense systems and warships.

Congress, which is almost entirely pro-Israel, has 30 days to block the proposed sale if they so choose from the date they are notified about it. Formal Notification will likely take place later this month. One solution being considered is for a separate arms sale to Israel so that the Israelis won’t have to fear about losing their spot in the food chain.

By now you ought to be up to your neck in bullshit. With about 200 nuclear weapons in their possession, Israel doesn’t have anything to worry about with this sale. This has nothing to do with protecting Israel’s right to exist, and everything to do with keeping Israel’s neighbors defenseless. Then again, I’m a terrorist sympathizer.

  1. Wait — I get it but I don’t get it.

What other allies does the U.S. have in Eurasia besides Saudi Arabia?

Isn’t that the whole point of this skirmish? Or is the U.S. really considering arming Dubai to the teeth?

  2. @yazo
And therein lies the deeper question my friend. The source merely states Saudi Arabia and “others”. If history is any indicator, those allies won’t be nations, but opposition groups in nations we’re not too chummy with. Israel knows that the enemy of your enemy isn’t always your friend, and the US makes allies into enemies so often that there’s a never-ending market to kill off yesterday’s buyers.

  3. Once I dig out from the blogswarm against theocracy, I’m giving this post a don’t sugarcoat it award. Thanks.
