While the mainstream media was focusing on Imus they also missed out on some fairly more important stories. Bill Maher discusses one such story regarding Monica Goodling, former aide to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, and her role in the firing of 8 US attorneys. Goodling is one of 150 graduates of Pat Robertson’s Regent University serving in the Bush administration. Yes, the TV host who called for Hugo Chavez’s execution is appointing members of our government. If you think that’s bad, his “university” even boasts that “approximately one out of every six Regent alumni is employed in some form of government work.” This extremist group, whose goal is to make America into a fundamentalist nation, is influencing the most powerful country in the world. In my opinion, that makes them infinitely more threatening to human life than any fundamentalist Muslim group.

Thanks to Peter of Truthdig for the tip.

In a related video, Colbert attacks the pope’s disapproval of our war in Iraq.

  5. […] Still, with all the criticism of Bush for failing to act on Katrina, no one ever mentions that the evangelicals in his administration are looking towards preventative measures for the next big disaster. In fact, one of their allies across the pond has shared information that the recent floods in England are actually God’s punishment for allowing gays to have rights. The Bush administration’s denial of constitutional rights over here may eventually be what saves us from a flood of biblical proportions. […]
