World Bank President and former US Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz issued an apology for the promotion and pay rise of his girlfriend, Shaha Riza. This principle architect of the Iraq war claims to be fiercely anti-corruption, the way congressman Foley claimed to be anti-pedophile, or the way Cheney claimed to be anti-shooting old men in the face. Wolfowitz’s girlfriend was moved to the State Department when he took Presidency of the World Bank. She received a raise in pay up to $193,000 and promotions deemed “grossly out of line” by the bank’s staff association.
