Gonzales trained for five hours a day (why would you need to train to tell the truth?) in preparation for his hearing with the Senate Judiciary Committee, and still doesn’t have much of an alibi. Contrary to an earlier press conference statement in which he denied any involvement in the firing of 8 US attorneys, Gonzales now admits that he fired them, but states that he doesn’t know why. In fact, the Attorney General used the phrase “I don’t recall” 45 times before lunch. If amnesia is your best defense, you’re screwed.
