I was saddened this morning to learn of the passing of Rep. Jaunita Millender-McDonald, who passed away yesterday morning of complications due to cancer. Rep. Millender-McDonald has represented some of the more underprivileged areas of Los Angeles for over a decade, and more recently was the chairwomen of the House Committee on House Administration.

I was privileged to meet with her on multiple occasions in the past. She may not have been the highest profile congressperson, but she was always supportive of our issues, and struck me as an engaging and well informed leader to boot. Anyone who has spent time around other members of the House of Representatives knows that they are not always the sharpest tacks in the box, so it was refreshing to come across one who who made you feel like democracy actually works.

May God rest her soul.
