The United States has recently built a wall segregating parts of Baghdad, joining such human rights abusers as the Soviets, the Nazis, and present-day Israelis. Gee, why would anyone not love the idea of an occupying power constructing a wall through their capital? The continuing efforts to convert Baghdad into a maximum security prison are just as controversial as they are ineffective, as Stewart notes.

The other half of the segment is below the fold

In an article at Truthdig, Scott Ritter rightly points out that the Republican Party, which idolizes Reagan for ordering Gorbachev to “tear down this wall,” stands behind Bush’s same affront to freedom in Iraq. He says, “That the party of Ronald Reagan would willingly ally itself with those who embrace policies so rightly and strongly condemned by America’s 40th president speaks volumes to the moral vacuum it is operating in today.” Anyone near the southern border of our country will also testify that building walls between populations and through ecosystems is nothing new to this administration.
