As promised, more Rage. This is a video of Zach de la Rocha and Tom Morello performing an original song in Chicago on April 14th. The piece was made in honor of the victory of the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) who reached an agreement with McDonald’s to improve farmworkers wages and working conditions. The footage is from the CIW “Concert for Fair Food”.
The McDonalds agreement guarantees:
1.) A penny more per pound to workers harvesting tomatoes for McDonald’s.
2.) A stronger code of conduct based on the principle of worker participation.
3.) A collaborative effort to develop a third party mechanism for monitoring conditions in the fields and investigating workers’ complaints of abuse.
After reaching successful agreements with Taco Bell and McDonalds, the CIW is now moving to put the pressure on Burger King. Print out a page of the CIW demands which you can then drop off to a BK manager, letting them know that local consumers are concerned about their business practices.
A link to the letter is also posted in the Action Alert section.
