Speaking at a Forum, on March 14, 2007, in Washington, D.C., Dennis Kucinich restated that he rejects a US-led war with Iran and addressed issues concerning the occupation of Iraq. The event was sponsored by AfterDowningStreet.org, DAWN, and six other groups.

Any hope you might have had about the threat of war with Iran diminishing in 2008 once a Democrat is elected to the White House ought to have been dissolved during the first Democratic debate. None of the top tier Democratic candidates will rule out a war with Iran, nor will they rule out using nukes. Kucinich and Gravel were the only Democrats with enough integrity to object to the continuation of global war and occupation.

The group specifically rallying politicians behind a strike against Iran is not simply the Republican Party, but AIPAC. Replacing a Republican president with a Democratic one makes no difference since both parties answer to the same lobbies. Sadly, most of the so-called liberal press (including the blogosphere) is just as complicit in toeing the pro-war line for Israel as conservative publications. They defend pro-war Democrats like Clinton simply because she’s on “our side”. Well, they’re not on our side. The truth is that most Democratic pundits and politicians are not liberals; they’re moderate Republicans to the right of center, fighting extreme Republicans on the far right. Both heads of this party give individual freedom a rather low priority, and it’s rare when any real alternative is offered. We’re lucky in ‘08 because Kucinich IS an alternative.

If an AIPAC Democrat is elected president, we may see a “smarter” global war being waged, but it will still be war. You know the drill: protect Israel at all costs, support their 40 year occupation of Palestine, no negotiating with the resistance, no discussions, support pro-American dictatorships, protect American interests, and carry out terrorist acts via the CIA against any nationalists threatening those interests. Neither Obama, Edwards, Clinton, Richardson, Dodd, nor Biden will lead us to peace. You DON’T have to simply elect a pro-war Democrat to replace a pro-war Republican. You have a choice. Don’t waste your vote.
