In the wake of the beatings which took place on International Worker’s Day in LA, apologists came out of the woodwork, defending police brutality. Maher doesn’t think we ought to be so lenient on those who “protect and serve” when they end up doing the opposite they’re paid to do. Indeed, the overuse of force against citizens has made society a dangerous place, not a safer one.

I’ve commented on the May Day beatings before. I think we ought to go a step further and apply Maher’s rule towards all men and women in uniform. Any soldier who intentionally kills, beats, rapes, or tortures a civilian should not get a free pass. We should also have a no tolerance policy towards our politicians. In my opinion, any Democratic presidential candidate who voted for this war or continues to fund its criminality is no longer an option.
